God loved the Egyptians just as much as He loved the Israelites.
I hear a lot of Christians justifying their liberal stances by stating that God is a God of love. Previously I gave you ‘6 Reasons Why God Is Not A Liberal‘, and I want to explore Liberalism further in this post by looking at issues that have arisen as Donald Trump has begun his presidency in the United States. It is certainly true that God is a God of love; in fact, more than that, God IS love. But liberal minded Christians have a very weak and wishy-washy idea of what love means. The Bible is very clear that God’s love does not make Him weak and wishy-washy. God is also the God of vengeance (“O Yahweh, God of vengeance, God of vengeance, shine forth“, Psalm 94:1, Lexham English Bible) and Exodus 15:3 says, “The Lord is a man of war“. God loves everyone equally; but we should remember, for example, that when His covenant people Israel were threatened, God was fiercely protective of them. Read the account of the Exodus from Egypt – God loved the Egyptians just as much as He loved the Israelites, but that did not stop God from drowning the entire Egyptian army when they threatened the people that He was in covenant with. Real love is absolutely not weak and wishy-washy. Real love is prepared even to kill if necessary.
What exactly is these Christians’ problem?
Recently liberal Christianism (the weak, man-made version of Christianity) has been on the war path against President Trump since he took office in the USA on 20th January 2017. What exactly is these Christians’ problem?
- Is it because many Christians have now been put in positions of authority?
- Is it because the US government is now filled with pro-Israel people?
- Is it because the new CIA director, Mike Pompeo, is a man who said in 2014, “Jesus Christ our Savior is truly the only solution for our world“?
- Is it because President Trump chose a Vice President who is a strong Christian? (See Mike Pence’s testimony, shared prior to the election below:
- Is it because priority will now be given to Christian refugees? A Christian country putting their brothers & sisters in Christ first – how terrible!
- Is it because someone is now actually standing up for the rights of the unborn, instead of the rights of their mothers to have them murdered. This is the Vice President’s speech at the January 2017 ‘March For Life‘ in Washington DC:
Pope Francis was wrong.
“Well for one thing Matthew, I don’t like this wall that he wants to build on the Mexico border. Pope Francis said ‘A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not the gospel’“. Yes, but Pope Francis was wrong. Tell me: exactly what is the issue here? This is not Berlin, this is not a wall that will divide a city and symbolically a country. We are talking about a border wall, Mexico and the US are two separate countries, is it not right that they should have a secure border to ensure that those who pass between the two countries do so legally? The wall is not about stopping Mexicans entering the US, it is about stopping illegal immigration. What is so unchristian about that? Would allowing people to break the law by coming illegally across the border be more Christian? If there was a problem with the Canadian border, I’m sure that a wall would be built there, but apparently there isn’t any major problem with Canada. If Canada had out of control drug gangs, maybe a wall would be a good idea there too, but it doesn’t.
Islam does prove a very real threat.
“Well okay, but what about this Muslim ban? It’s really unfair to discriminate against people because of their religion”. Firstly it was not a Muslim ban, the reason for President Trump’s temporary ban on people travelling from certain countries was clear:
Our country needs strong borders and extreme vetting, NOW. Look what is happening all over Europe and, indeed, the world – a horrible mess!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) 29 January 2017
The reason why the countries in question were Muslim majority countries is because radical Islam does prove a very real threat and to suggest that radical Muslims are no more of a potential danger than Hindus or Buddhists is naive foolishness. Furthermore, the seven countries originally singled out were identified by the Obama administration as requiring further travel restrictions – in other words, there is a higher level of threat from these countries. “But the Bible says that we should be welcoming to those who need help“. That’s right, it does, but the Bible does not say that we should be naive idiots who just welcome everyone who turns up on our doorsteps, no questions asked. On top of that, since the order was issued, Kuwait (a Muslim country) has done something similar (see the story here) – which somewhat undermines all the nonsense about how unfair the new policy is. It has also emerged that many Muslims actually support the policy (see story here).
Just look at Germany.
If you want to know what the sort of approach that would please liberals looks like, just look at Germany. As asylum seekers continue to flood Germany in massive numbers, a staggering €22 billion was spent on them in 2016 alone. Is that a more Christian approach? No, be frank it is an extremely stupid approach. A country’s leaders have a responsibility, first and foremost, to their own citizens – not to the citizens of other countries. The policy that President Trump has enacted is not about a lack of compassion towards those in need of help, it is about having the wisdom required to deal with such an issue. President Trump said in a statement issued on 29th January 2017: “I have tremendous feeling for the people involved in this horrific humanitarian crisis in Syria. My first priority will always be to protect and serve our country, but as President I will find ways to help all those who are suffering“.
We are supposed to stand out from the world.
In John 15:18-19 in The Message Jesus said, “If you find the godless world is hating you, remember it got its start hating me. If you lived on the world’s terms, the world would love you as one of its own. But since I picked you to live on God’s terms and no longer on the world’s terms, the world is going to hate you“. We are supposed to stand out from the world, they are supposed to have a problem with our way of thinking, we are not supposed to be in constant agreement with them. If you if always seem to agree with the world’s point of view, doesn’t that tell you something? Look at Jesus’ words: “If you lived on the world’s terms, the world would love you as one of its own“. Stop agreeing with every opinion you hear through the media, dare to stand out and be different. I will conclude by asking one question, with everything I have said here in mind: What has President Trump done that has upset you so much, what exactly is your problem?
