Without the new birth anything else that God could offer us would be worthless.
There is a spirit of deception at work in the church today. It is a spirit that seeks to nullify much of the work that Jesus accomplished through His scourging, death and resurrection. It is a spirit which exhibits a form a godliness, but denies the power thereof (2 Timothy 3:5). You do not need to search hard to find out who is behind this spirit, because the words that he uses now, are the same words that he used when he spoke to Eve, “Has God really said…..?”. Of course I am talking about Satan and the unwitting people that he is using. These people see it as their mission in life to criticise other Christians who are preaching about more than just the new birth. Don’t get me wrong, the new birth is of primary importance. Without the new birth anything else that God could offer us would be worthless, because without the new birth we would be destined for hell. But Jesus purchased so much more for us and Satan has sought to deceive us into receiving as little of it as possible.
They do not realise that is they themselves that are doing the work of Satan.
The people I am referring to, will give you a list of names of people who they consider to be “wolves in sheep’s clothing”, people they view as false teachers. But the sad truth is that they do not realise that is they themselves that are doing the work of Satan in seeking to put doubt and unbelief into people’s minds concerning what the Bible teaches. Let me give you some examples. 3 John 2 says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth“. The answer to this is, “Has God really said He wants us to prosper and be in health? No, this is just a meaningless greeting in John’s letter“. So John’s desire for his readers to prosper and to be in health, is relegated to a greeting that he didn’t really mean. How about Isaiah 53:5, “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed“. This verse states very clearly that “With his stripes we are healed“, but there’s an answer to this too: “Has God really said we can be healed physically? No, this verse is all about our transgressions – spiritual healing. It doesn’t mean we can be healed of sickness or things like that“. What Christians who preach this sort of thing don’t realise, is that Jesus’ scourging, (which is what the ‘stripes’ refers to) is a completely separate event from His crucifixion. They don’t realise that the scourging was not necessary to obtain the new birth. Why would Jesus go through the horror of a Roman scourging if it wasn’t necessary? The answer is that it was necessary to purchase our healing. So to deny that physical healing is available to us as believers is totally wrong – Jesus suffered terribly for us to be healed.
Jesus was accused of blasphemy because He compared Himself to God.
Another teaching that I have heard criticised is the teaching that we are like God. This is considered to be blasphemous by many Christians. But is it? Let’s see what the Bible says. Psalm 82:6 says, “I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High“. Jesus was accused of blasphemy because He compared Himself to God, look at John 10:33-34, “The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?“. Rather than trying to explain what He meant, Jesus’ answer to the Jewish leader’s charge of blasphemy was to give the most controversial answer He could by quoting Psalm 82:6. Let me help you with this, we are not the God (obviously). We require a spiritual head, God does not. God is over all and does not answer to anyone. However we are made in the image of God and we are supposed to be acting like Him. Ephesians 5:1 in the Amplified Bible, Classic Edition says, “Therefore be imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father]“. The accusation is that some preachers are trying to raise us up to God’s level, but the Bible says that it is in fact God who has raised us up, “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6). The other accusation often raised, is that certain preachers are trying to bring God down to our level. Don’t they know that He came down of our level, down to Earth, of His own accord?
My advice to you is to be open.
I could give you more examples, but it is unnecessary. The whole point of what these Christians are doing, seems to be argue against practically everything the Bible says and not just to argue, bur to preach it from their pulpits. You find a promise in God’s Word and they will tell you why it doesn’t really mean what it says. By passing judgement on those that they refer to as false teachers, actually naming the people in question, they fall foul of Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:1, “Judge not, that ye be not judged“. If you have an issue with what someone is teaching, you don’t have to listen to them. The best thing you can do though is to pray about it and ask God to show you the truth. It could be that you have got it wrong. If you continue to have an issue, pray for the person, but don’t judge them. We are allowed to disagree as Christians, but we are not allowed, and we are certainly not called, to judge, criticise and preach about what other Christians are doing. My advice to you is to be open, there is so much in the Bible that you may not know, and God wants you to have everything that is available to you. We have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us to guide us – if a teaching is in error, you will know it on the inside. For example I feel uneasy whenever someone says to give an exact amount of money. That just doesn’t feel right to me, we should be led by the Holy Spirit in what to give, not by outside pressure. However just because someone does this, does not mean that I dismiss everything else that they teach. Let the Holy Spirit be your guide and if you are unsure about something, look it up in the Bible for yourself and meditate on what you read.
You don’t need to be hearing doubt and unbelief.
Don’t allow anyone to cause you to miss out on what God has for you. If you currently listen to preachers who tell you why the Bible doesn’t mean this and doesn’t mean that -STOP, you don’t need to be hearing doubt and unbelief. Start listening to Bible teachers who preach the uncompromised Word of God and begin to expect God’s best.
