As Christians we should not be clueless concerning Israel.

Many Christians today are completely ignorant concerning Israel. They have no idea whether the Israel that came into existence in 1948 is still the country of God’s chosen people, or if they are oppressive occupiers of Palestinian land. Many Christians hold the view that Israel is not biblical Israel, nor are the Jews God’s favoured people – the Church being the ‘New Israel’. The quote below from Christian Aid is typical of the wide spread ignorance among Christians, who really should know better:

Recurring Israeli incursions and attacks, the Israeli blockade, and internal Palestinian conflict have all contributed to the fact that 75% of the population of Gaza is reliant on humanitarian aid for survival.

In the West Bank, illegal Israeli settlements take up Palestinian land and water resources and create restrictions on movement that impede Palestinian access to education, healthcare and employment, as well as restricting the economy – all contributing to poverty.

Or how about this 2012 quote?

How can settlements on God-given land be illegal? Christians really ought to know their Bible! Very often Christians will try to be neutral in the Israeli / Palestinian issue – “Well of course there’s two sides to every story…” But as Christians, we should not be clueless concerning Israel, there is no excuse for it. Historically, the Israelites were God’s chosen people, and if that is still the case today we need to be 100% on their side. Remember what God said to Abraham (which then applied to His seed through Isaac and Jacob), “I will bless (do good for, benefit) those who bless you, And I will curse [that is, subject to My wrath and judgment] the one who curses (despises, dishonors, has contempt for) you” – Genesis 12:3, Amplified Bible. Whether or not this still applies today is extremely important, because if it does, we do not want to be on the wrong side if it! We can expect the world to show contempt for Israel, but there are entire denominations that fall into this category.

Has there ever been a country called Palestine?

On the other hand, if God has rejected Israel and the Church are now His only people, if the Jews did indeed violently force the Palestinian people to leave their country, then we need to be taking their side, we need to be standing up for their rights. So let’s examine what the truth is, beginning with the Palestinian side of things. Firstly, has there ever been a country called Palestine? The answer is a short one: No. The slightly longer answer is that historically, Palestine was an area of land designated as Palestine by the Romans, but it has never been a country. This area of land later became part of the Ottoman empire; in fact until after the first quarter of the 20th century, it was the Jews living in Palestine that were called Palestinians. In 1937, a local Arab leader, Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi, answered the question as to whether there ever was a country known as Palestine when he told the Peel Commission (which ultimately suggested the partition of Palestine):

There is no such country as Palestine! ‘Palestine’ is a term the Zionists invented! There is no Palestine in the Bible. Our country was for centuries part of Syria”.

Isn’t that amazing? In 1937 not only did the Arabs acknowledge that the country of Palestine was a work of fiction, they actually claimed it was a term invented by the Jews!

The people that now call themselves Palestinian Arabs are just that – Arabs.

So who are the people that today are referred to as ‘Palestinians’? Until the late 1960s, the Arabs considered it an insult if someone called them Palestinian. The reason being that, until the late 1960s, the word ‘Palestinian’ was commonly and unanimously associated with the Jews who lived in that region. The people that today call themselves Palestinian Arabs are just that –  Arabs, they are not descended from the ancient Philistines, as is sometimes claimed or inferred. So how long have this particular group of Arabs actually lived in what was previously called Palestine? For the most part, not particularly long! Most ‘Palestinian’ Arabs come from the countries surrounding Israel, their ancestors having migrated to Israel in the late 19th century when the Jews began returning there (notice what the motivation was). However, it’s only fair to be point out that the Arabs did indeed once have dominion over the land now called Israel. It was in the year 635 AD and lasted for a whole 20 years!!!

In 1948 approximately 630,000 Arab refugees left Israel.

One of the main ‘gripes’ that the so-called Palestinian Arabs have, is the way that they were apparently forced out of what became Israel in 1948, and that they have been denied the right to return to their homes ever since. The truth though, is somewhat different, and for world leaders not to know this, they can only be just plain dumb or willfully ignorant (but the above photo shows that there is hope). So what is the truth? What really happened in 1948? It is true that in 1948 approximately 630,000 Arab refugees left Israel; however, they were not forced out by the Jews as is claimed, the truth is that they were encouraged to leave by the leaders of the surrounding Arab countries – the plan being that they would return once their fellow Arabs had wiped out the Jews. The Arab armies’ mission was simple: ‘Wipe them out, all of them’. The part of what happened in 1948 that is never reported is that at the same time about 800,000 Jewish refugees were forced from their homes in the neighbouring Arab countries.

The Arab fantasy of a quick, overwhelming victory didn’t happen.

Of course the Arab fantasy of a quick, overwhelming victory didn’t happen – well it did happen, except that they weren’t the victors! All of the Arab countries that attacked the newly formed nation of Israel were overwhelmingly defeated but, unlike the Jews who were expelled from the Arab countries and absorbed into Israel, those Arabs had been encouraged to leave Israel were not absorbed in any Arab country. Instead they were forced to remain as refugees – despite the huge size of Arab / Muslim territory in comparison to tiny Israel. Their forced refugee status was intentional, with the end result being the millions (the latest UNRWA figure is about 5 million) of the original refugees’ descendants, who today insist on their ‘right of return’ to Never Land, I mean Palestine. So yes, the people that today are called ‘Palestinian’ Arabs are an oppressed people. However it is not the Jews that are to blame, it is their Arab brethren who, since 1948, have been using them as pawns for the cause of removing any Jewish presence from the Middle East – 5 million ‘refugees’ would totally overwhelm Israel. (Is the flood of mostly Muslim refugees to Europe a similar tactic? I’ll just leave that thought with you….)

How can you be a ‘Palestinian’ refugee on land controlled by the ‘Palestinians’?

Want to know how long an Arab had to have been living to Palestine, prior to leaving in 1948, to be classed as a refugee? Amazingly, they only had to live there for less than two years for them (and their descendants) to be classed as refugees! Another interesting point to note is that the refugees that live in Gaza and the so-called ‘West Bank’, are still classed as refugees and live in refugee camps. If this is really all about land, why is it that even when they are given their own land that they still remain as refugees in that land? How can someone be a ‘Palestinian’ refugee on land controlled by the ‘Palestinians’?

Didn’t Israel take the Gaza Strip and the ‘West Bank’ from the Palestinians in 1967?

Muslim pray with backsides to Dome of the Rock
Muslims pray with their backsides towards the Dome of the Rock – that’s how important it is to them.

What about the Gaza Strip and what the world calls the ‘West Bank’, didn’t Israel take these territories from the Palestinians in 1967? No, not at all – there is no truth to that whatsoever! Prior to the Six Day War of 1967 (another Arab attack on Israel) the Gaza Strip was controlled by Egypt and the ‘West Bank’ was occupied (illegally) by Jordan. It was only after Israel took control of these regions, that the refugees living there began calling themselves ‘Palestinians’.

What about Jerusalem?

But what about Jerusalem though, surely the Muslims have a right to what is apparently the third most holy place in Islam? The question is though is: Is Jerusalem really as important to Muslims as they say and what is the reason for any importance? If Jerusalem is so important to Muslims, why is it not mentioned even once in the Koran? Could it be that Jerusalem is important to the Muslims, only because of its importance to the Jews? Do you think that it’s a coincidence that the Dome of the Rock mosque ‘just happened’ to be built on the site of the Jewish temple? We to stop being naive about these things.

The ‘Palestinians’ are an invented people.

The only conclusion that can be reached concerning the ‘Palestinians’ is  that they are an invented people, the sole purpose of their fake nationality being to destroy Israel in a way which the Arabs were unable to do by military might – despite the odds being overwhelming in their favour. A better name for the ‘Palestinians’ would just be Arabs – but then of course, very few people would feel sorry for Arabs for not having enough land – because clearly the Arabs already have quite a lot of territory of their own. As we draw this article to a conclusion, let me remind you of something I mentioned at the beginning – which was that some people try to be neutral by saying that there are two sides every story. There are two sides, there is no doubt about that, and we have seen that one side – the Arab one –  is totally based on lies. In the next article in this series, ‘Israel vs The Palestinians – Part II: The Magical Land of Palestine‘, we will look at more of the lies that are constantly being told.

Finally, you may have noticed that I have not quoted many Bible verses in this post, so here’s one from Judges 11:13 in the International Standard Version, “The king of the Ammonites answered the messengers of Jephthah, ‘We’re here because Israel took away my land from the Arnon River as far as the Jabbok River and as far as the Jordan River when they came up from Egypt! So restore it as a gesture of good will’“. Sound familiar? The devil’s tactics have not changed, he was lying about Israel stealing land back then and demanding gestures of goodwill and he’s still doing it today.
