Most people have reluctantly accepted that which they previously found hard to stomach.
One of the most prevalent signs of how far Western nations have turned away God, has been the acceptance of what was once considered unacceptable. In the past, many countries had laws outlawing homosexuality. In the United Kingdom for example, the punishment for homosexual acts until 1861 was death. Then the punishment was changed to life imprisonment. Were those punishments too harsh, considering we are not required to use the punishments detailed under the Law of Moses? Probably, but if they were intended as a deterrent to warn people away from a homosexual lifestyle, then those laws would certainly have been effective (but obviously no punishment is 100% effective as a deterrent). The point I am making is not that there should be punishments for homosexuals, but to demonstrate the vast shift in society’s view of homosexuality; because today, Western Society has gone completely the other way. Today, most people have reluctantly accepted that which, if they are honest (and many aren’t), they previously found hard to stomach. For the younger generation, who have not been taught Biblical values, tolerance is all they have ever known.
Most people who are labelled as ‘homophobic’, do not have a fear of homosexuals.
Today, Western countries have brainwashed themselves into accepting, what only as far back as the 1980’s, was considered by the majority of people to be repulsive. In the Twenty First Century, anyone who does not agree with homosexuality is labelled ‘homophobic’. A nonsense word that really means nothing intelligible when it is analysed: ‘homo’ – meaning ‘the same’ and ‘phobic’ – meaning ‘relating to a fear or phobia’. So the literal meaning is ‘a fear of something the same’ – whatever that means! But even if you take it to mean what people intend, it is still inappropriately used: A phobia is a fear, but most people who are labelled as ‘homophobic’, do not have a fear of homosexuals, they just don’t agree that what they are doing is OK, or normal. The word homophobic and the way it is used is very bad English.
Just because you do not understand the meaning of one verse, does not mean that you can completely ignore another verse which you do understand.
“But Matthew, you’re not being very tolerant….“. Yes, I know! But let’s look at what the Bible has to say and if you want to argue with God, go ahead – but I wouldn’t recommend it! Whilst Man’s opinions on what is acceptable and what isn’t are extremely variable, what God says never changes. Leviticus 18:22 says, “You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination“. Now that is pretty clear, but when a verse like this is mentioned, a favourite response of the homosexual lobby and their supporters is something like, “Oh but doesn’t Leviticus also contain laws about things like not mixing different types of materials in clothing?” In giving this type of response, they are mocking God. They are, in effect, saying, “Look how ridiculous God’s rules are! Why should we obey any of them?“ So let me counter this argument: Just because you do not understand the meaning of one verse, does not mean that you can completely ignore another verse which you do understand. But in this instance, not mixing different materials (Leviticus 19:19) was a ceremonial law, which only applied to the children of Israel. Not practicing homosexuality on the other hand, is a moral law which will always apply, whether you were born Jewish or not.
This collective brainwashing has been pretty effective and we need to counter it with the unchanging Word of God.
Let’s look at some more verses, because this collective brainwashing has been pretty effective, and we need to counter it with the unchanging Word of God. Leviticus 20:13 says, “If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death“. As we are not under Mosiac Law, we are not required to put people to death, but that does not mean that it is no longer a detestable act – it is just as detestable in the sight of God as it has always been, and it should be equally detestable in our sight. Your sense of fairness is, to be blunt, totally irrelevant – you are not morally superior to God.
So-called Christians who continue to practice homosexuality are in rebellion against God.
“But doesn’t God accept people as they are?“. Yes, absolutely God accepts us as we are when we first come to Him. But that does not mean that we don’t need to seek His help in changing the things in our lives that need to be changed. Homosexuals that claim to be Christians, have either not genuinely made a commitment to Christ, or they have accepted Him as Saviour, but not as Lord – which means they are on very shaky ground (yes I am being harsh, but would you prefer I lied and said it doesn’t really matter? Some of you probably would!) If someone has been a Christian for some time, they should no longer be living their old, sinful lifestyle. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 says, “Do not be deceived; neither…….effeminate, nor homosexuals…….shall inherit the kingdom of God”. From reading those verses, I do not see how someone who refuses to turn their back on homosexuality can expect to go to Heaven. So-called Christians who continue to practice homosexuality are in rebellion against God. Romans 1:32 says, “Although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them“. So not only is God against homosexuality, He is also not particularly impressed with those give ‘hearty approval’ to those who practice it. So be willing to be labelled ‘intolerant’, be willing to be labelled ‘homophobic’, but do not be one of those giving ‘hearty approval’.
You may have noticed that I have not used the word ‘gay’.
You may have noticed that I have not used the word ‘gay’ in this article and there is a very good reason for this! I resent the fact that this word has been taken from an innocent word which originally meant joyous and lively, merry, happy, lighthearted, bright, brilliant (for example, the way it’s used at the end of The Flintstones theme tune) and has had it’s meaning completely twisted and perverted. A typical example of Satan’s attempt to defile everything that is good.
Western countries have taken what God called holy and defiled it.
But let’s get back to looking at how Western society has embraced what God calls ‘detestable’ and ‘an abomination’. On 26th June 2015, the Supreme Court in the U.S. ruled that same-sex ‘marriage‘ is a legal right across the United States. President Obama said the ruling was a “victory for America“. The United Kingdom had already legalised same-sex ‘marriage’ in 2014 and many European countries before that. In so doing, Western countries have taken what God called holy and defiled it, just as they did with the rainbow – the sign of God’s covenant to never again flood the Earth. The rainbow, which should be symbolising God’s promise, is instead used as a symbol of sexual perversion. You do not treat the things of God like that and get away with it. President Obama even lit up the White House in the colours of homosexual pride, showing how little respect he had for God.
Stand up for what is right, if you upset people – so be it.
As Christians, we need to stop being tolerant of sin. Those of us who are parents, have a responsibility to teach our children right and wrong according to the Bible, not according to the world’s ever increasing acceptance of sin. Stand up for what is right, if you upset people – so be it. God is not impressed with Christians who accept whatever the world says they should accept and ignore what He has said. Who cares whether it’s politically correct or not?!? We should always be in agreement with God, never in agreement with what the devil is trying to push. Oh, and in case anyone accuses me of preaching hate: No, I am not preaching hate, I am preaching love. We are called to love everyone, we are not called to accept sin. It is high time to stop worrying about being politically correct and start acting in a manner that is pleasing to God. Let me make things simple for you: You cannot follow God with all your heart and be politically correct. The world will never take seriously Christians, who are constantly compromising what they believe. The world needs to see Christians who believe so strongly, that they are immovable. That is the sort of lifestyle that will draw people to Jesus, not the wishy-washy, go with the flow, don’t upset anybody, type of Christian.
It is time to make a choice – either God’s way or the world’s way. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
For further study you may find this post by Everest John Alexander interesting. It explores the question, ‘Is Being Anti-Gay & Racist The Same?’. Finally this post was written primarily for Christians, to make the point that homosexuality is a sin, and we should not pretend otherwise. Jesus can set someone free from this sin, just like any other sin though. If you currently identify as homosexual and feel trapped in that lifestyle, please visit Janet Boynes Ministries where you will find help and support.
